How payment terminals are used in parking

Prepaid

Typical on-street configurations require the user to pay for parking in the parking terminal upfront.  You can select between preprogrammed time options (like 1 hour, 3 hours, daily, etc) or enter the desired time, and pay.

Postpaid in gated

In gated lots, you have to pay before leaving. The payment terminal calculates the cost, based on the time parked, the customer pays and then has a grace time (typically 15 minutes) to leave.

Postpaid with freeflow

The freeflow is a camera-based lot without barriers. You drive in and out, and the camera captures the sessions. Payment terminal allows to pay for the current and previous unpaid sessions (typically max  48 hours later).

Discounts and validations

You can give or show discounted parking, which can be given in kiosks or by scanning a voucher or a purchase receipt in the payment terminal.

How payment terminals are used in charging

Vehicle enters charging

The driver starts the charging session via the payment terminal and then plugs in the car.

Charging session starts

The system authorizes the session and electricity begins flowing to the vehicle.

Energy delivered & tracked

Charging progress, energy consumption, and pricing can be tracked in real time.

Payment & payout

Once charging ends, payment is processed and revenue is settled automatically.

Dedicated models for outdoor and indoor

The outdoor payment terminal is made of powder-coated aluminium and has thermal insulation, sealing, heating, ventilation, and thermal controllers, to provide reliable performance in all weather conditions. Similar payment terminals work today in extreme conditions — from the sun-exposed ports of Palermo in Sicily to the windy, humid, and cold environments of Nordkapp in Norway.

The indoor payment terminal is made of powder-coated steel. It is meant for indoor use, like lobbies, entrances, and other locations without direct exposure to rain, snow, or sun. This allows you to save on the initial investment.

The color can be customized, with graffiti-resistant finishes available for public environments.

Order Configuration

The Autlo Payment Terminal is available in two form factors: freestanding (floor-mounted) and wall-mounted (compact design).

Autlo payment terminals cater to a wide range of screen sizes. Typical screen sizes in inches are: 19 - 21,5 - 24 - 27 - 32. Custom sizes and two-sided terminals are available.

Each unit features a vandal-resistant touchscreen, thermal insulation, sealed housing, and a built-in industrial PC. The complete delivery includes the kiosk enclosure, display, and secure locking system.

Typical options include printers, scanners, and cameras.

The receipt can be printed out, sent to email, or you can scan a QR that opens the receipt on your phone (so you can save it).

The screen is highly customizable. Besides charging for parking and/or charging, you can sell other products or show ads.

All the payment options

Card only

Ideal for modern, cashless parking locations where speed, simplicity, and low maintenance are priorities. Card-only terminals support EMV chip cards, contactless payments, and mobile wallets, reducing operational complexity while meeting today’s user expectations.

Supported payment methods include:

EMV chip cards (credit and debit)

  Contactless payments (NFC)

Mobile wallets (like Apple and Google Pay)

Card and cash

Well-suited for public parking environments where inclusivity and accessibility are essential. These terminals accept card payments alongside cash, with optional coin handling, ensuring all drivers can pay regardless of payment preference.

Supported payment methods and options include:

  EMV chip and contactless cards

  Mobile wallets (NFC)

  Banknotes and/or coins

Card, cash and returns

The most powerful option for high intensity locations, where original higher investment can be earned back by reducing the cost for cash inkasso and maintenance. These terminals are able, besides essential card and cash payments, also to return cash or coins.

Supported payment methods and options include:

EMV chip, contactless cards and wallets

  Banknotes and/or coins

  Banknote and/or coin returns

For operators prioritizing digital journeys, payment terminals and kiosks can be combined with QR-based and app-based payments. Drivers can start or end parking sessions using their mobile device, while physical terminals remain available as a reliable fallback option.

This hybrid approach reduces hardware dependency while improving user convenience and scalability across locations.

Supported mobile and digital payment options include:

-   QR code–based parking payments via the webshop

-   Parking apps and web-based payment flows

-   Integration with operator-specific mobile applications

-   Hybrid setups combining apps, QR, and physical terminals
