What is a toll road payment system?

Number plate as the toll tag
ANPR reads the plate as the vehicle passes and matches it to the account, pass or pay-later trip. No on-board unit, no windscreen sticker, no stopping at a booth. Free-flow at full speed, or the barrier opens automatically where the crossing has one.
Passes and pay-later online
Drivers buy day, week or annual passes in your webshop, app or at a payment machine, linked to their number plate. Occasional drivers who cross without a pass enter their plate online afterwards and pay the trip, so no crossing goes unpaid.
Payment machine
Where the bridge or tunnel has a barrier, it can double as the payment machine: at a touchscreen and card terminal in the lane, drivers see the price for their vehicle class and pay without leaving the car, and the barrier opens.
A stand-alone machine at a rest area or visitor centre serves walk-up customers and drivers settling a trip.
Toll booth
A staffed toll booth may still be required, especially for oversized and special vehicles, cash payers, or where staff verify the vehicle class. Booth sales run on the same platform and appear in the same reports.
Toll API
Let partners sell and settle your tolls. Fleet card providers, car rental companies, navigation apps and fuel stations can sell passes and pay trips for their customers with automatic settlement, so part of the revenue arrives where your drivers already are.
Mobile app
Regular drivers and commuters register their plate in the Autlo app or your own white-label app, and every crossing is charged automatically. The app can also sell passes, show closure and traffic notices and pay for other services, like EV charging at rest stops.

Stopped car detection
Autlo's on-site ANPR computers analyse the live video stream from your existing cameras and recognise when a vehicle stops in a lane, on a bridge deck or inside a tunnel. Detection runs around the clock, without an operator watching the screens.

The moment an incident is detected, Autlo notifies the people you choose by email and SMS, with the location, camera and time of the event. Escalation lists make sure the alert reaches someone on duty, day or night.
